The importance of wearing protective gear when you are riding a motorbike is often talked about but scooter riders are often ignored when it comes to this topic. The fact is, however, that it doesn’t matter if you are doing 50mph or 15mph, it is still going to cause a lot of damage if you come off your scooter.
So it is highly recommended that you wear protective gear such as gloves, trousers and jackets made of good, tough materials. It doesn’t matter if you think the weather is too hot outside to be wearing that many layers, you should still always wear them anyway. If you have an accident you will regret it if you don’t.
Make sure you buy yourself a very good pair of scooter gloves, the thicker the better. Think about how important your hands are to you and how much damage can be done to them if you come off your bike and you will see why this is so vital. It is better to have a safe pair of gloves that maybe don’t look so good than a thin less protective pair that look better.
Apart from the gloves you should also wear protection on other parts of your body while you ride your scooter. It is possible these days to buy all sorts of ‘armour’ for your body including items which protect your knees, your hips and even your back. Also protection for your feet is necessary, proper boots are advisable and much more preferable to wearing trainers which will not protect your feet at all in the event of an accident.
Finally make sure you have a protective scooter jacket. This is an area where you really have a lot of choice as there are many companies selling a wide variety of really cool scooter jackets so you really don’t have to look uncool on your scooter in order to fully protect yourself.
